THE LOWDOWN
Keros beach is one of the best places to learn to kite and to progress in Europe. A 4km sandy, safe bay with moderate meltemi winds and turquoise colors, provides the perfect set up for kitesurfing. The surrounding area, away from mass tourism, is part of the Natura 2000 ecosystems, with sand dunes, salt lakes and unspoiled landscapes.
Kiting Set Up
Keros beach is a sandy shallow, safe beach. You are in waist deep water when you are launching/landing, or during your kite lesson. Unlike other popular kite spots, there is an abundance of space for you to ride and try out new moves. On the north side of Keros bay, you will find super flat conditions and you can ride over perfect turquoise waters. In the middle of the bay, there is small chop, assisting you in learning new jumping tricks. At the south end of the bay, you can find small, but nicely spaced out waves, that provide a perfect introduction to wave riding.
When is best to go?
The meltemi winds start in June and last until September, peaking in July and August. In May and September you can also find south winds, that also provide perfect conditions at Keros.
Limnos is a morning spot, which means there is good wind for kiting from 9.00 am until 15.00 pm. On windier days, the wind stays till later. In the evening the wind drops down and shifts offshore, providing a perfect terrain for hydrofoiling, or windsurfing and wingfoiling lessons.
No wind?
Activities wise, you can give windsurfing or wingfoiling a go. Since last season, Surf Club Keros also has a Padi Scuba Diving center! You can take your first certified lessons if you are a beginner, or go on guided dives if you are an advanced diver. At Surf Club Keros you will also find a fleet of SUP boards (make sure to try out the Mega-SUP with your friends and family), canoes, and a 15ft Hobbie Cat and a dinghy for you to use.
Surf Club Keros also organizes island trips to a selection of hidden gems and interesting places on the island. You can go sandboarding, visit the salt lakes, go on e-bike tours, visit wineries, or visit Myrina, the port town of Limnos, and have some mezes by the small fishing port.
