KITING SET UP
Dakhla Lagoon, around 40km long and 4km wide, formed by the Dakhla peninsula that extends into the Atlantic, offers a huge protected water sports area. Close to the shore directly in front of the center, the water is shallow and has an approximately 200m-long standing area that is deep enough for foiling. The bottom is the finest sand. This is the perfect all-round spot for beginners, advanced riders and pros looking for smooth water. Whether you’re learning something new or refining your skills, our spot is ideal for all levels of riders, and our certified instructors will ensure a fun and safe learning experience. For wave-loving kiters, we offer trips to the wave spot on the Atlantic side of the peninsula on selected days. The wind here blows constantly side- to side-onshore, usually a few knots weaker than inside the lagoon. The break is over 2m high even in summer and can get much higher in winter.
WHEN IS BEST TO GO?
Dakhla is an absolute wind sensation and brings us fantastic wind all year round! The trade winds that alternate between the Canaries and Cape Verde during the summer and winter sweep over Dakhla throughout the year. As a result, it’s almost constantly windy here – an average of 320 days at around 15-22 knots. The north-east trade winds blow sideshore and are further accelerated by the mountains in the interior as the wind funnels through them. A pleasant, soothing maritime climate awaits you, relatively dry and not too hot. Keep an eye out for our exciting kite and wing events and camps, including advanced coaching clinics with pro riders, special themed retreats, and community gatherings for like-minded water sports lovers.
NO WIND?
On windless days, we take the 4×4 pickup to the wave spot on the Atlantic coast, less than ten minutes away. There, you’ll find moderate, cleanly breaking waves – ideal for learning how to surf. The sandy bottom provides safe conditions, making this spot perfect for kids as well. An experienced guide will be there to offer valuable surfing tips. The tour takes place with a minimum of three participants, on no-wind days only, and you can rent a surfboard. Alternatively, relax at our infinity pool or hang out at the beach bar.
