THE LOWDOWN
Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa is only five minutes from the international airport. Guests enjoy a wide range of all-inclusive facilities and amenities, including a choice of family-friendly or adults-only accommodation, a full schedule of daily and evening activities, and more, on 85 oceanfront acres. Our kiters can ride while their families are at the resort having fun too. The resort’s mile-long stretch of beach enjoys trade winds that guarantee 15-25 knots in season. The wind blows consistently side-onshore which makes entry and exit super easy at our Surf Shack. A protective reef breaks the surf, making it easy for beginners to stay balanced while learning and there is a channel that takes more experienced riders beyond the reef barrier. We have experienced kiters ready to assist, be it with tips for beginners or advanced riders.
Kiting Set Up
Our location is excellent for all levels. We have a protected reef about 200 meters from our shoreline which blocks incoming surf creating flat-water, while beyond the reef barrier surf can be overhead 80% of the time, perfect for wave riding. Our beachfront Surf Shack and school is a 3-minute walk up the beach. Set up your rig, take 10 steps and you are in the water! Coconut Bay’s coastline is paradise because there are no sail boats, no jet skis, no other activities with power boats, just you. Our winds are super steady, with no shore break or waves crashing on the beach. It’s a friendly environment even for total beginners who are average swimmers. In addition to equipment rental, guests are welcome to bring their own gear and for a $20 daily fee will receive storage, air compressor usage, assisted launching and landing, and boat rescue and supervision.
When is best to go?
Side-onshore, 15-25 knot winds from the Atlantic make this one of the best kiting destinations during the season, November to July. These are great winds with easy riding in our protected bay inside of the reef, and waves outside of the reef. All skill levels have an easy launch from the Surf Shack’s beachfront staging area.
No wind?
At the Surf Shack we have an undefeated spike ball duo who will take on a challenge on lightwind days! You can snorkel the reef to see underwater life including turtles, snapper and a World War II plane wreck. Coconut Bay’s activities make the most of its ample outdoor space including kayaking, SUP, pickleball, tennis, basketball, oceanfront yoga, Pilates, volleyball and more. Facilities also include five pools and the island’s largest waterpark.
