By the time you read these lines, the all-new Reedin HyperModel will already be on the market, but we had the chance to test it a couple of months ago at an event where Reedin previewed their entire 2025 range for dealers. HyperModel, Reedin’s high-performance flagship, comes with major updates we’re excited to break down!
As Reedin’s top-tier Big Air kite, last year’s HyperModel featured a full Aluula Gold frame for maximum performance. For 2025, rumor says Reedin initially planned to continue with a refined version of the Aluula Gold model, already tested and ready for production. However, an opportunity arose to build the HyperModel at Brainchild Production, a new facility specialized in advanced materials and techniques for high-performance kites. Working with legendary designer Ralf Grösel together with inhouse designer Damien Girardin, the duo developed a new HyperModel with enhanced performance and a lower price point. Win-win!
So, what makes this new construction distinctive? HyperModel remains a 3-strut kite but now uses a blend of canopy materials for optimized performance. In the center, it features Hardflyte, a stiffer material that enhances lift, while the wing tips use Teijin T9933, a softer fabric that enables faster turns. And then there’s the PROWELD construction on the leading edge that fuses panels, eliminating traditional stitching and reinforcement, significantly reducing weight and improving torque transfer. But enough about tech!
In flight, HyperModel immediately showed off its agility. It’s exceptionally fast, yet intuitive, with low bar pressure, making it easy and natural to keep control. In mixed conditions, it held a steady low end and managed gusts well. As a high-performance kite, it truly shines with its Big Air features, smooth and consistent loops, explosive lift and extended hangtime. The loops felt tight and controlled, giving us confidence to push for more technical tricks. There’s not a big yank unless you want it, making kiteloops and rotations feel effortless and letting us focus on our tricks. While we didn’t have the conditions to test double loops, they’re certainly possible and don’t be surprised to see triples on this kite… The lift is up there with the best in its class, while the hangtime also suits hooked freestyle, for those days you’re not in full kiteloop mode.
So, who is HyperModel designed for? It bridges the gap between traditional freeride/Big Air kites and the next-generation pure Big Air kites. Freeride/Big Air kites are typically user-friendly, offering smooth and easy jumps, great hangtime and moderate speed. In contrast, modern Big Air kites, like the HyperModel, are built for extreme performance, delivering incredible speed and precision, with a strong emphasis on kiteloops and kiteloop plus technical tricks. The HyperModel stands out because, while it’s a high-performance Big Air kite, it doesn’t demand advanced-pro-level skills to enjoy. Extracting its performance is straightforward, though a bit of experience will help you make the most of its potential. For riders already focused on Big Air, this kite provides the confidence to push boundaries, nail bigger loops and explore new tricks. It’s a great choice for those riders eager to progress and elevate their Big Air game to the next level, and will also serve you well when you want to dabble in some foiling or wave riding.
