TKM60 THE CHAMP - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #60

The Champ

“A couple of months later, the same friends that got me into wakeboarding started kiting, so of course I did too. It seemed inevitable that I would get into twintip freestyle because of my wakeboard background. But actually the sport that I really love and is a lifestyle for me is surfing, so I went into the wave-riding side of kiting because of that.”

Kite-Surf World Champion Gabriel Benetton explains how he got to the top of his game following a winning streak in wakeboarding, and tells us about his trip to the green room in Indonesia.

TKM60 TEAM BATTLE - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #60

Team Battle

“A week initially seems like plenty of time to make a short video, but in reality, no matter how great the conditions might be or how stacked teams might appear, this event challenges the stamina and endurance of the world’s best. While the videos themselves are feats of creative and athletic mastery, the work that goes into each and every shot is overwhelming.

We hear from the Kite Park League about their recent Team Battle event, where teams go up against each other to see who will produce the goods – best video – after an intense week’s filming.

TKM60 THE SEASON - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #60

The Season

“As the winds die down and Brazil’s kiteboarding hotspots return to their quiet coastal fishing villages, the riders reflect on yet another unforgettable season. From nail-biting competitions to personal milestones, this season had a little bit of everything. From world-class freestyle to epic rail sessions, Brazil’s kite season delivered once again.”

Six pro riders report back on how their season of training and events in Brazil went down, accompanied by stunning shots from Andre Magarao who was there to capture it all.

TKM60 MAN OF Many Talents - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #60

Man of Many Talents

“The golden hour: my favorite time to shoot. The sun and water create all sorts of beautiful shapes and color. This new Switchblade colorway literally glows with vibrance and when Alby Rondina is hucking all sorts of handlepass variations off kicker waves it’s truly a spectacle to behold!

James Boulding’s photos often feature in our mag, as not only is he Cabrinha’s Marketing Manager, but he is also their chief photographer. We get a sneak preview of snaps from their 2025 shoot.

TKM60 SERTOES - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #60

Sertões 2024

I was back for my second year at the Sertões event. Last year I was blown away by the event but also did not know entirely what to expect… The final 90 minutes were some of the toughest of my life, and this year I vowed not to put myself in a similar position… This year I was better prepared and knew exactly what to expect. And I wanted to do better.”

Our Editor-in-Chief Alex headed back for take two of the grueling 300km+ downwind Sertões rally. Armed with the wisdom of experience from his previous go, would he survive to tell the tale?

TKM60 MISSION A Big Birthday - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #60

The Mission: A Big Birthday

This trip wasn’t just about the kite, though. Roberto Ricci, the heart and soul behind RRD, wanted to make this trip special to celebrate his 60th birthday in style, in Mauritius. It was the perfect way to combine his milestone celebration with the 30th anniversary of RRD, a brand that has helped shape so much of the industry.”

When there’s a big birthday to celebrate, and you want to try and bag yourself a cover with your new wave kite, what better destination than the legendary One Eye in Mauritius.

TKM60 MISSION Egyptian Queen - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #60

The Mission: Egyptian Queen

“It was an awesome trip to Egypt, but I didn’t escape a minor mishap… I had a bad crash onto a coral reef – an occupational hazard of picking such an epic spot. I looked down and saw this massive gash in my shin. Clearly, stitches were needed, but the logistics were a nightmare. A speedboat to the hospital and back? Not happening…

What do you do when you injure yourself in the middle of nowhere? Luckily there was a doctor in the house and some gin to take the edge off, so it didn’t spoil an otherwise epic trip.

TKM60 BEHIND THE CLIP - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #60

Behind the Clip: Vortex

“For the past year, the three have traveled the globe in an effort to bring their vision to life and showcase kiteboarding as they see it through a full-length film, Vortex. Tom, Xander and Noè set out to create a film that not only showcases some of the best riding but also the truth of the modern era in which we all live and connect.”

Vortex, a film by Tom, Xander and Noè, premiers in Cape Town in January, promising to be more than just the average short video that dominates our viewing space these days.
