HISTORY
Sertões Kitesurf emerged in 2021, drawing on the expertise of the organisation responsible for Sertões, the largest rally in the Americas. The idea was to bring a little of the spirit of dust to the sport played with kite-shaped sails (Kites), as well as the concept of endurance, with longer downwind courses.
In the first edition, the race brought together world champions (such as Reno Romeu and Bruna Kajiya) and had international participation. The route connected São Miguel do Gostoso (RN) to Preá (CE). Romeu and Marcela Witt were the champions in the Pro.
In 2022, Cumbuco was the starting point of a route that ended in Barra Grande (PI), which included for the first time passing through the beautiful Guajiru Island. Alex Neto and Gabi Reynard took the title in Pro.
The 2023 edition once again started from Cumbuco but, this time, took the sailors to Camocim. The highlight, in addition to the presence of the main names in Brazilian kitesurfing, was the participation of UK’s Hannah Whiteley, World Champion of the Dominican Republic, Deury Corniel and Junior World Champion of France, Théo Demanez. Another attraction was the debut of the Wing (Foil) category.
