The Mission: Rendezvous at Sunset

We’ve said it before in these illustrious pages, and we’ll no doubt say it again, the golden hour as the sun goes down is usually an outstanding time to take photos, and the Levitaz team proved that point on their recent trip to Egypt to photograph their latest board range. Product manager Michael Zeilinger told us all about it.

We embarked on a team trip to Egypt in February, eager to capture stunning visuals of our new kite foil board range against the backdrop of the Red Sea. Our designers have been working hard on improving the range, placing emphasis on enhancing the riding experience with greater control, improved forgiveness upon touchdown or landing, and heightened maneuverability at higher speeds. This achievement is realized through meticulous refinements, such as the redesign of the beveled rails and the incorporation of a double concave bottom shape towards the nose, alongside an optimized scoop rocker line. Moreover, the new construction method utilizes a cutting-edge 50K waterproof foam core combined with a 100% carbon fiber build, resulting in boards that are exceptionally stiff and strong but also remarkably lightweight. Hence, we were eager to hit the water with these new boards.

Despite our anticipation for the usual robust winds synonymous with the Red Sea, we found ourselves at the mercy of gentle breezes, barely reaching seven to eight knots. However, this setback did little to deter our enthusiasm; instead, it presented an opportunity to showcase the versatility of our equipment in low-wind conditions. Accompanied by Adrian Geislinger, who took time off from his busy role of Managing Director at Levitaz’s mother company, plus our team rider, Lukas Vogeltanz, who calls Egypt home, we set out to make the most of the conditions.

Our shooting schedule posed its own challenges, with the strongest winds typically occurring around midday and tapering off towards sunset. Yet, it was during these fleeting moments, when the light was just right, that we aimed to seize the magic. Our photographer Benni worked tirelessly to capture every moment, ensuring that no detail escaped his lens. The photos we captured played with the reflections of the setting sun, taken from both the water and the shore using various equipment. The rugged desert landscapes and imposing mountains of the Red Sea area provided a breathtaking backdrop to our sessions.

As we kited into the tranquil evening, with the sun casting warm hues across the landscape, we couldn’t help but be awestruck by the beauty of our surroundings. Riding into the sunset felt like a surreal privilege, reminding us of the sheer wonder of exploration. And as the last rays of sunlight dipped below the horizon, casting a final, fleeting glow across the landscape, we knew that these experiences would stay with us long after the journey had ended.
